The human population has already used up more than half of the renewable resources present on this Earth. This massive pressure on natural resources will keep on increasing with the growing population. It means that towards the end of the century, there will be 11 million individuals living on this planet. It implies the rapid depletion of natural resources that is not possible to renew. The present population of the earth is 7 billion, which means a sharp rise of 5 billion by 2100.

The highest rate of the population occurs in backward countries. As per the estimation of the United Nations Population Fund, the sub-Saharan Africa population will almost quadruple by the end of 2100. This massive jump in the population is projected because, in some of the countries, the fertility rate is not dropping as per the expectation. In the words of Ute Stallmeister, birth control and sex education exercise are yet not much developed as expected.

Too Many Children – Too Many Children

Every year near about 80 million women in the developing countries are experiencing unplanned pregnancies. This is because of the lack of access to birth control and sexual education. According to the estimation of the UN, the global population will reach 28. 16 billion by 2100 if the rate of growth keeps on continuing at the present pace.

On the flip side, the size of the population in industrialized countries is rapidly shrinking. According to the prediction, the German population is going to drop by a minimum of 10 million by 2050. As per Stallmeister, considering the possibility of the skilled worker shortage, more immigration in the future is required from other countries.

As per the UN Population Fund report, countries that fall under the category of fast population growth are already facing difficulties in feeding the growing population. The prime elements, like energy, water, and food, are becoming expensive and scarce worldwide.

Furthermore, all the nations across the globe are facing the real effects of the changing climate.

In the words of Helen Clark, who is the head of the United Nations Development Program, if the human development keeps on advancing while destroying the surrounding environment at the current pace, then it will lead to a severe issue.

According to Clark, the primary tasks now are developing ecologically and socially sustainable structures, adapting the climate changes, and instituting peace efforts and good governance. She further added, in due course of 12 – 15 years, the geographical aspect of poverty will become very much confined. Furthermore, it will lead to such an extent, where there will be colossal disaster risk, excessive armed violence, weak governance, low resilience, and fragile states.

Population Facts – Role Model – Ethiopia

The development should always focus on sustainability and ensure social justice, environmental protection, and economic development. According to Helen Clark, this is possible. The poorest country like Ethiopia aims to become a middle-income country as well as carbon neutral by the end of 2025. Hence, it is possible for other countries. The strategies of Ethiopia should be our role model. Moreover, we all need to take inspiration from them to uplift the human development strategies in an eco-friendly manner.
